The Lara Scolari Art Gallery is a distinctive contemporary art venue located at 48 Beattie Street, Balmain NSW 2041, serving as both a public exhibition gallery and the working studio of acclaimed Australian abstract expressionist Lara Scolari. Set within a character-filled three-story heritage terrace, the gallery combines a street-front exhibition space with an active artist studio, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience both completed artworks and the creative process behind them.
Combining gallery, studio and event space, the Lara Scolari Art Gallery offers an immersive arts experience within a beautifully restored 1860s heritage terrace. The venue features light-filled interiors, large windows and flexible exhibition systems that support dynamic curation and changing displays. Upper-level spaces offer views towards Sydney Harbour and the Anzac Bridge, adding to the gallery's distinctive character. With adaptable event spaces, modern amenities and capacity for up to 100 guests. Its intimate scale and authentic atmosphere make it an ideal setting for exhibitions, cultural events, private viewings and creative gatherings.
Located approximately 3.7 km from the Sydney CBD, the Lara Scolari Art Gallery is accessible on foot in around 45 minutes via a combination of waterfront pathways and local streets through Balmain. While the route includes some hilly sections, it is supported by well-connected pedestrian infrastructure. For a more convenient and scenic journey, visitors can take a ferry from Barangaroo or Circular Quay to Balmain Wharf, followed by a short walk through Balmain's village centre to the gallery. The venue is therefore well connected by public transport and easily accessible for local pedestrians.
