The Cutaway is Barangaroo’s iconic events and cultural venue, carved from the sandstone beneath Barangaroo Reserve. Defined by its dramatic scale, the space features a striking exposed sandstone wall, expansive concrete floors and soaring ceilings, creating a unique backdrop for events. Combining raw architectural character with modern event capabilities, The Cutaway offers a versatile setting unlike any other in Sydney.
The Cutaway is cultural and event venue, carved into a dramatic 14-metre-high sandstone cliff face beneath Barangaroo Reserve. Its distinctive design features 13 multi-storey timber "trees" that support the structure while enhancing acoustic performance.
Combining striking architecture, flexible event spaces and deep First Nations cultural integration, The Cutaway offers a unique setting for major events and experiences. Facilities include a main event space, pre-function area, gallery and exhibition rooms, commercial kitchen, green rooms, dressing rooms and integrated rigging infrastructure.
Located beneath the eastern end of Barangaroo Reserve on Sydney’s waterfront, The Cutaway offers step-free access from Barangaroo Metro Station, public lifts connecting the underground car park to the venue and parkland above, and an adult Changing Places facility registered with Changing Places Australia. Recent improvements to the entry, forecourt and façade adjacent to Nawi Cove further enhance accessibility and visitor experience.
